Ohio State's Alex Grinch Leaving To Be Defensive Coordinator At Oklahoma

Ohio State Co-Defensive Coordinator Alex Grinch is reportedly on his way to Norman to be the new Defensive Coordinator for the Sooners.

Rumors had been circulating for a few days, but it was confirmed and first reported by Bruce Feldman Friday. Grinch had been in Columbus just one year after being hired away from Washington State where he turned that defense around in short-order.

Now that the season is over, new Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is trying to finalize his coaching staff, and one has to wonder what went on behind the scenes on this one. Grinch is well-respected as an up and coming talent in the game, and the program has shown a willingness to throw money at assistant coaches they don’t want to lose.

However, the Buckeye defense uncharacteristically struggled for large portions of the year, and it sure feels like a changing of the guard makes sense.

But hey, at least we can always remember How The Grinch Stole Michigan’s Soul around Thanksgiving.

Ohio State now has a void on the defensive side, so we’ll have to wait and see what Day does to round out the staff. You can probably expect Defensive-Line coach Larry Johnson to stay, but there could be wholesale turnover with the rest of the defensive staff, including current Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach Greg Schiano.

Stay with us as more news on the coaching changes occur as Ryan Day looks to solidify his staff.
