Ohio State vs. Michigan State instant reaction: 3 things we learned

Ohio State welcomed Michigan State to Value City Arena for a top fifteen matchup, and important, pivotal game in the Big Ten. Ohio State played well for a half, but in the end the Spartans took control of the game with intensity, quickness and athletic ability,

Here’s three things we learned.

Who’s going to step up at winning time?

Who’s the guy that’s going to put this team on his back in winning time? For all the parts being greater than the sum and all that, you need one big part when going against the best of the best, and it’s just not there this year for Ohio State.

At least not so far.

Wesson is great down low, but he can’t create his own shot, or break anyone down one-on-one with the dribble. C.J. Jackson and Keyshawn Woods are solid on the perimeter, and Dwayne Washington can spot up for threes, yadah, yadah.

But I get a feeling Holtmann just doesn’t know where to go when the game is on the line. That probably won’t change this year either. Ohio State will win plenty of games this year and likely make the NCAA Tournament, but it’ll be tough to go on a deep run without a stallion to ride with.
